First Day Hike at Jack London State Park

On January 1, 2014 Jack London State Historic Park will participate in the national “First Day Hikes” movement sponsored by America’s State Parks, offering an opportunity to kick off your new year with a healthy start. The January 1, 2014 hike for health at Jack London State Historic Park is part of both a 50-state collaborative national fitness event and the “150th Legacy Project” celebrating the 150th anniversary of California State Parks.

Jack London State Historic Park, with its vast 1400 scenic acres and over 20 miles of trails is an ideal place to maintain a fitness regimen and this “First Day Hike” is a perfect way to get it in motion. The moderately strenuous 8 mile/4 hour hike through mixed evergreen forest will conclude at the top of the summit offering sweeping vistas of Sonoma Valley. Along the way, there may even be early sightings of “Milkmaids,” the first brave wildflowers.

Note: Hikers should wear sturdy shoes; bring plenty of water, snacks and binoculars. At the top you can pat yourself on the back while enjoying the fabulous view of the Sonoma Valley. Heavy rain will cancel. Hiking staff is preferred. This hike may not be appropriate for children under 13.
