The Sonoma International Film Festival is proud to present the Sonoma Spotlight Award to both Mary-Louise Parker and Demián Bichir.
Mary-Louise Parker has enjoyed a diverse career in film, television and on stage. She is widely known for her starring roles in such films as Fried Green Tomatoes, RED, Boys on the Side, The Assassination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford, Reckless, The Client, Naked in New York, Bullets Over Broadway and Longtime Companion.
On the small screen, Parker won a Golden Globe and four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for her role as Nancy Botwin in the hit Showtime series Weeds, and also won a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for her role in the 2003 mini-series Angels in America. She also boasts a highly acclaimed and extensive stage career, having appeared in such plays as Prelude to a Kiss and Reckless - both of which earned her Tony Award nominations - and “Proof” for which she won a Tony Award.
Oscar-nominated actor Demián Bichir has impressive film and television work in both the United States and Mexico. Sonoma audiences will remember Bichir from Antonio Serrano’s Hidalgo: The Untold Story (Hidalgo - La historia jamás contada), which was screened last year as part of the Quinceañera Film Fiesta and was named Best Very Independent Feature Film.
Known for his moving portrayal of an undocumented worker in Chris Weitz’s A Better Life, Bichir received multiple Best Actor nominations - from the 2012 Academy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards - and received the Virtuoso Award from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. He also starred in Steven Soderbergh’s 2008 two-part epic Ché as a young Fidel Castro, as well as Oliver Stone’s Savages, both with Benicio del Toro.
